Better News About the Back

I am sure by now that people may be tired about my endless back updates, but read on, this one is good!

My primary care physician started me on a new medicine for chronic pain. They generally use this drug for diabetic neuropathy, so they do know that it is safe for people with diabetes which I also have. It is non-addictive and non-narcotic which is also a plus. I am very happy to say that the drug is working! I have had a 25% reduction in pain during the day. It does not seem like much, but to me it means so much. I can function fairly well doing what I usually do during the day. Like going to the Y to water walk and use the whirly, do some limited computer time, cook dinner, hang out with the best silky terrier ever, and have more stamina. I am still cautiously optimistic at this point as my body tends to trick itself into being good for a few months, but then revert to it's old self almost like it has figured out how to adjust to the new drugs.

On another note, for the first time in 15 years my diabetes is starting to get under control. I switched over to a new long acting insulin that I take once at night and then a short acting insulin every time I eat. I felt sick the first few days to a week of the medicines working as my sugars where finally in the range that they should be. They had been ungodly high up until then. But I have not had any high sugars in 3 to 4 weeks, and have even had some lows. The lows are very scary for me as sometimes I do not realize they are happening. They even reduced the amount of insulin I take at night and this should hopefully fix the problems of the lows.

That's all for now!

I want to wish all that read this blog a Happy Holidays and A Fantastic New Year! I would also like to thank all those that have supported me and cared about me through this ordeal. It means a great deal to me.
